I have always been eating pork, meat and anything that you could think of that are unhealthy. I tried to eliminate rice as a form of a sacrifice last holy week but I know you bet on it. You are right, nagbalik-loob ako with rice last Easter Sunday.

What about you guys? Have ever thought on changing your diet in your aim to being healthy? I have thought of being a Vegan once, but I guess it would entail a lot of discipline especially in my case where I am not that expert in preparing food on my table. 😑

And honestly, I would say, it isn't complicated after all. I've met her at Marriott Hotel Manila during the launch of their amazing Vegan menus. I never thought Vegan menus can taste this good! Yes, you heard me right guys. The vegan food that I was able to try are not the typical "walang lasa""Lasang goma" Vegan food that almost all of us expect.

We were served with a 3 course Vegan menu where Vegan has gone fancy —everything tasted just so right.

Chickpea Falafel (appetizer)

We began with a Mediterranean appetizer — Chickpea Falafel, made more flavorful with lemon-artichoke puree and grape relish and cilantro oil.

Grilled Forest Mushroom and Leeks (Main Course)

Main course is like a “walk in the forest” with Grilled Forest Mushroom and Leeks stuffed with fresh basil gremolata, garlic crushed baby potatoes and seasoned by tomato reduction.

Chocolate Mojito Ice Pops

The launch was around lunch time so they let us capp of our lunch with Chocolate Mojito Ice Pops made by a fine mix of coconut, mojito, lemon and of course, chocolate cake on the side.

I swear, I never expected I would love and like vegan food as much as I did with all of these. Promise guys, you gotta try this out 'cause you might find your fine dining fix to be just a routine already.

Who knows, you might just drop your favorite “steak” at Cru Steakhouse because this wholesome 3-course vegan menu is priced at Php 1,300 only. Vegans or not, you can now do your date night or elegant dining in the metro’s top restaurant.

For something handy to-go, Vegan Bars takes on a spotlight at Marriott Café Bakery. These are dark and white chocolate clusters with salted pumpkin seeds for Php 450 per 200g, perfect as takeaways or giveaways.

Chocolates used are from international brand, Felchlin Switzerland.

We all know it, last Sunday, May 14 was Mother's day. It was also the birthday of Tammy so we kinda' have a different celebration for lunch and dinner that day. It was extra special to me because as I've shared in my blog last Sunday, I officially became a Mom on Mother's day. 💗You may view the whole post here in case you missed it.

Speaking of becoming a Mom, when we think of our Moms, diba one of the things that pop up our mind are the best recipes that she prepares on our table. I don't know why, but probably because of the instinct of our mothers who tend to be naturally caring. Diba they would always make sure that she feeds and give out the best for her family. Sabi nga nila, wala ng tatalo pa because our Mother's are the best kaya naman her cooking is the best din.

How bout you, where did you guys celebrated the most special day for your moms?

We celebrated ours at SALU, the Filipino Restaurant located in Quezon City which is owned by Celebrity Couple ~ Romnick Sarmienta and Harlene Bautista.

LUTO NI NANAY EXPERIENCE

Dine in guests could choose from three set menu - Luzon, Visayas or Mindanao. Where in each menu already contain a list of viands, rice and single served drinks.

What could our dear Nanays expect from this?

Moms would be asked to cook at least two dishes from each set inside the Salu Kitchen,
thus the name Salu’s Luto ni Nanay.

Tita Mommy (mother-in-law of Jeffrey Santos, brother of Judy Ann Santos)

Last Mother's day, they invited moms for this experience. The mother-in-law of Jeffrey Santos was the representative of the guest moms who got to cook, experience and feel Salu's Kitchen. She shared her recipe of her specialty (fish lumpia) which she demonstrated from preparation to cooking simultaneously.

To complete the learning experience, a Salu chef would assist the moms in their cooking, teach them techniques on how to make dishes better, tastier.

A hand painted apron will be provided to moms right after the said activity as their souvenir to keep for their unique culinary experience.

They invited all the guest moms to have a photo inside Salu's kitchen but I opted to have this photo instead. Aren't we all cute :)

MINDANAON DISH

We were served the Luto Ni Nanay, Mindanao Package (Tiyula Itum, Beef Kulma, Pyanggang na Manok) + some more of Salu's specialty - buffet style.

We started with their TIYULA ITIM— sultry and spicy black soup made with juicy beef cuts and burnt coconut meat, which is a tasty match.

TRIVIA: ( I got this trivia from Salu's FB page) Tiyula means soup and Itum means Black. Its dark greenish black color is brought about by turmeric and burnt coconut, the key ingredients for this unique dish. it is often served during weddings or special celebrations.

BEEF KULMA, Philippines version of Beef Rendang

Chicken Pianggang is a juicy chicken barbeque marinated and cooked in coconut milk. This is their version of curry, a Tausug dish from Southern mindanao.

Tiyula Itum, Beef Kulma, Pyanggang and Utak-utak are the same dishes that they served at the Madrid Fusion, the biggest culinary event in the country held last April 2017 where Salu was chosen to represent the ARMM region during the recently concluded event. They were dubbed as the only restaurant in Manila who serves a range of the most authentic Mindanaon dishes according to DOT.

Actor Matteo Guidicelli, in cooperation with Sun Life Asset Management Company, Inc. (SLAMCI), will be launching a series of vlogs (Video Blogs), which aims to teach Filipinos about how investing can help make their #LifeGoals come true.

Dubbed “Make It Mutual”, the vlogs will tackle topics relevant to personal finance, such as growing one’s money, beating inflation and investing regularly. To make it easy for the viewer to relate these to real life, the modules shall be demonstrated in themes familiar to them, like fashion and fitness, among others. All videos will be shared via social media to make it really accessible. Above video is the first one among the series that will still be released.

Last week, I attended an inspiring talk called #LiveBrighter by Sun Life Financial. That was my first time to attend a session among the many talks that Sun Life hosted. I was eager to attend this one because one of the speakers was Apprentice Asia winner, Jonathan Yabut. I've watched a few of the episodes of the Apprentice Asia where he was doing the tasks that was given to him — and I am inspired on his attitude. Imagine, I was just able to watch just a few episodes and I admire him already. Paano pa if I've watched the complete season. A smart and driven man as he was in the show, there, at the event, he was so confident standing and talking live —giving us some dose of boost on becoming successful. Na-star-struck ako, sobra! The man sure knows how to motivate a crowd.

SO WHO IS JONATHAN YABUT

As I have mentioned, Jonathan is the first winner of the hit reality show "Apprentice Asia." He served as a chief of Staff for AirAsia for a year after winning in the reality show hosted by Malaysian business mogul Tony Fernandex. To date, he is running his very own JY Consultancy & Ventures, which operates in Manila, Kuala Lumpur, and Singapore.

#LIVEBRIGHTER SESSION WITH JONATHAN YABUT

Jonathan shared his story of how he rose from humble beginnings to become a successful businessman and in-demand motivational speaker. He talked about the work principles that has brought him to where he is now, and also emphasized the importance of serving a social purpose. According to Yabut, the latter is what will keep one inspired to keep improving his work.

Here are some of the quotable quotes that I was able to catch during his intro...

-The enemy of the ambitious is time.

-If you don't succeed in the next 5 years, it's already a consequence of the choices that you make in your life today, and there's no one else to partially blame but you.

Here's sharing you a quick rundown of his talk:

1. Success is when preparation meets opportunity.

He won Apprentice Asia not because he is the brightest person among the contestants but because he is the most prepared among them. He did what millenials do best when they need to know something about someone —stalk. He stalked Tony. He researched, watched interviews, listened to the words Tony used over and over to know what kind of person is suitable for the job that he wanted for his company. He was in fact the youngest contestant but in the end, he stressed that what is important is —Always be prepared.

2.You don't need to say yes to every opportunity-Success also requires saying NO.

Successful people practice Triage - they say no to things that are not really important. Triage is the procedure of assigning levels of priority to tasks or individuals to determine the most effective order in which to deal with them. Keep in mind that you can't be everything at once. Prioritize. Focus.

"Don't keep so much unnecessary lettuce in your life. "

This is how one airline company was able to save millions of funds just by simply removing some lettuce from the plate of food they serve on board. He shared this story behind the lettuce...

He said, in life, said lettuce can be toxic people, relationships, jobs or companies that don't add to your success. Remove them before they hinder your success.

3. In order to stand out, you also need to stand back.
Leadership is pullership, not pushership.

No matter how great you are as an individual contributor, you will not get promoted if you don't have leadership skills. Because the real role of a leader is to make more leaders out of others and once you become a leader, it's no longer about you, but the people that you serve.

Remember: Leadership is being able to influence someone to get that objective done even if that person doesn't like you or even if that person doesn't like his job.

4. It's not about working hard, but smart.

Jonathan said he had more faith in a person who works the typical 9-5 than those who come in to work extra early and leave super late. If the 1st person can accomplish the task in 14 hours, and the other person can accomplish in 4hours, the 1st person is working hard and the 2nd person is working smart.

Before you even execute and jump into any task, always zoom out first before you zoom in. Ask yourself if it is the best strategy for attacking. Look at everything and come up with ways to do things better.

Remember: Successful people are never content with one-time victories.

5.The secret to success is out there. It's called Grit.

Grit is passion and perseverance combined for a very long-term goal.

Grit is everytime that you make that amount of failure, you have the ability to get up and learn how to handle and deal with failures.

Everything that you need to succeed in life is within you. It is how you adapt in life circumstances.

Grit answers to that question, "para kanino ka bumabangon tuwing umaga" - he said if you cannot answer that question, you do not have the right to complain about life —because you are not inspired enough to know what you really want to do in life. Successful people are ready enough to believe that even if they have enough failures infront of them, they get it done.

He ended his talk with a great question for us to ask ourselves:

Have I become that person who I wanted to be 5 years ago and am I killing it?

Apart from Jonathan Yabut, Sun Life Financial advisor JP Cruz also shared his personal journey — how he reached rock bottom in both his finances and his love life, and what he did to overcome the struggle.

I have written down some notable things from his experiences (which I have shared via twitter during the event:

— Failure happens not because you're weak, but because your DREAMS are weak.

— Search for an emotional reason to make your life work more MEANINGFUL.

Now a successful Sun Life advisor, JP Cruz interestingly stressed a thought akin to what Yabut emphasized: that is to have a deeper reason for the work one pursues. In his case, Cruz finds it by helping people achieve lifetime financial security.

Here is something I've learned from both Yabut and Cruz: And that is the value of STARTING NOW. My age bracket is on the edge of millennials or should I say, ageing millennials — meaning sumasabit-sabit pa ako haha! But seriously speaking, aside from learning on having GRIT and SOCIAL PURPOSE, we need to free ourselves from the misconception that we are complacent and entitled, you know that thing called YOLO attitude? Yup ayun yun.

There's nothing wrong with going YOLO or CARPE DIEM once in awhile, but why put off for tomorrow what you can do today? I'm not saying that you should join The Apprentice Asia right away, or resign in your current job and set up your own company just like that. But guys, I think now is the high time that we change that misconception. Let's start channeling this negative attitude into changing how we do our work and how we look and handle our finances. Who knows, before we know it, those little changes that we do can make a bigger impact to everyone. Life is good, so we might as well make it a better place. After-all, we only live once!

Everyone knows how our family loved Marriott Manila. My fondness over the brand grows even more when I learned about their Brigada Eswela Activity.

Last week, Marriott Manila paints the town with joy and hope during the Brigada Eskwela 2017 at Philippine School for the Deaf. You would know if a brand and or a company is doing well if the Corporate Social Responsibility is included in its core values.

Associates poured out their creativity and dedication on every stroke and illustration for a more inspired learning place

Known for their company’s core value called, “Spirit To Serve”, the hotel exchanged their workloads for brushes and brooms to take care of the community.

The charity work is part the global Marriott Associate Appreciation Week to celebrate the 90th anniversary of its founding.

At least 30 associates volunteered in this meaningful maintenance work. Picking up the buckets from the successful rehabilitation work last year, wherein they painted elementary building hallways, pavement gutters and gate fences; they focused on refurbishing the Kindergarten learning facilities.

They repainted the 2-storey building that looked good as new now with kid-friendly illustrations around the hallways. From grimy and old, it turned to a brighter, more fun and inspiring learning space. Marriott Hotel Manila certainly knows how to make good brilliant.

Hello guys, I have been MIA here in the blog since first day of June. Actually, this is just the second time that I sat down over my lappy after the traumatic experience that we've had during the recent Resorts World Manila incident. Since sunday night last week, I started seeing comments of moms from my facebook feed about how they are preparing for the School Year 2017. Some said "hay,umpisa na naman ng maagang gising" , another one said "ma-cha-challenge na naman ang creativity skills ko for my son's baon" and another one said "kaya ko ito, pagsubok lang ito, ravann fellow mommies! "— ang kukulit these moms! hahaha!

And I am so thankful that it will still not start anytime this month kaya I can still wake up late at pwede pang magpabanjing-banjing ... (harharhar!, oo dear moms, nang-iinggit ako) 😆!

And since Tammy's school has not started their classes yet, let me do some short kwento and have some little flash back with my experience from school year of 2016.

Have you guys experienced kahit once lang in your life when you thought na nakapag-set na kayo ng alarm pero hindi nag alarm? 'Cause instead of setting it at 5am eh you accidentally set-it at 5pm??? If you did, apir tayo!!! At dahil nagkamalay na ako at around 5:30am na that time, I swear guys, ang sakit nya sa heart!!! hahaha! And naturally, since I woke up late —I was left with nothing and just prepared the easiest and the most pakyaw baon for Tammy. Guys, guess nyo what it is —

I just grabbed 2 pcs of banana, an apple and a bread with a slice of cheese and that's it —that was Tammy's baon for the day!

Ang bad ko ba? I did it kasi I was really left with no choice lalo na that Tammy is a very picky eater. Serioso ako guys, Tammy is pihikan amongst all the pihikan's. Sobrang ang hirap nyang pakainin!!! She doesn't eat beef. She doesn't eat pork but she eats spam, ham, sausage and luncheon meat. She eats chicken but just the skin lang.

Grabe, I know!!!

So now, tell me, I think kahit sinong mommy eh malulukring and will be challenged with Tammy's eating habits diba. There was actually a time that I would just stare blankly na lang sa kawalan 'cause I don't really know what to prepare anymore. Kaya nga I am always praying that sana, Tammy would continue and will still remain healthy despite her kaartehan sa pagkain.

Madaming choices yung Buffet —

Japchae, Baby potatoes, Kimchi, Korean Pancake, Sweet and Sour Pork, Bulgogi, basta madami pa. See photos below. For sure, photos pa lang, matatakam ka na.

Wapakels nga pala sila kahit magpailang balik ka pa sa buffet area nila. Yes guys, they won't mind for as long as you will finish your food. They have a clean plate policy so you have to take note of that.

Payong kaibigan: kumuha ka lang ng kaya mong kainin. ‘Wag maging takaw tingin. ‘Wag mo na din tangkain kumuha ng madami tapos wala ka namang balak ubusin para lang makabawi sa ibabayad. Sayang ang pagkain mga mamsh and kuyang. Madami ang di nakakakain.

Unli Yakiniku:

Their Yakiniku is seasoned. You can choose over their Classic, Sigsaga Special, or Honey Glazed.

Masarap lahat lalo na if you will add some spices and sauces. The sauce are available at the buffet table. You may get as much as you wish.

The husby and I preferred the Yakiniku ng medyo toasted, yung medyo crunchy. But guys, it would really depend on you pa din.

Here's a friendly tip: They have mga special sauces available for the Yakiniku to suit your taste. Do remember, the sauces are made readily available para kayo na ang bahala magtimpla according sa panlasa nyo.

Guys ah, baka naman pag nagtry kayo eh magreklamo kayo na maalat o matabang ahhh. Palo ko kayo! Haha! Pero kidding aside, when I tried, masarap naman sya even if kahit nung I have not added any spices and seasoning pa. Lalo syang sumarap when we added and pinaglalagyan ko siya ng kung ano- anong sauce. I clearly remember na parang ayaw namin tumigil that time. Truly, bet na bet talaga namin sya. Shucks! Partida di pa ako marunong magluto ah..

Service:

- They accept advance reservations.
Friendly tip mga mamsh: Call kayo for an advance reservation para ‘wag mabagot sa pag antay sa pila. At dahil patok na patok sila, madalas blockbuster talaga ang pila hanggang labas ng restaurant kasi nga dinadayo talaga sila. Pramis, minsan galing pa yung customers nila sa probinsya. Ayan ha, wag nyo sabihing hindi ko kayo na-warningan. Baka mamaya may maamoy akong mga hugot linya nyong “pati ba naman dito pinag-aantay ako”. 'Wag ganun guysh.hahaha!

- Kung magpapa -reserve kayo, take note nyo na may cut-off sila. 10am ang cut-off ng reservations for lunch and 2pm naman for dinner. Beyond that, considered na kayo as walk-in guests on a first come-first served basis. Kaya mga mamsh, para maka-iwas talaga sa pag-aantay, magpa-reserve in advance, owki!

- Friendly and accommodating kung mga staff nila. Pagsisilbihan ka nila ng bongga. Most often than not, nandun yung owners — kaya kung may concern ka sa kanila at nandun si Boss, push mo na.

- May wifi. Pero sa dami ng pagkain, di mo na muna mapapansin ang social media pag nandun ka.

🚌By Commute

- From Manila

Just ride a bus, yung TAS Trans, sabihin nyo ibaba kayo sa Cecille’s, tapat ng Casimiro (yun lang wala na akong idea kung magkano na ang pamasahe sa bus ngayon mga mamsh. Tanungin nyo na lang kay kuya conduktor)

- From Alabang or From Zapote

Pwedeng mag jeep or mag bus kung ayaw mainitan.

→Kung galing ka ng Alabang, sakay kayo bus na byaheng papuntang Baclaran/Sta. Cruz. Kung Jeep naman, sakay kayo ng byaheng Zapote or pwede din yung pa-Baclaran. Sigurado yun dadaan yun sa BF Resort. Ganun din, sabihin nyo ibaba kayo sa Cecille’s, tapat ng Casimiro.

→ Kung galing ka naman ng Zapote, sakay kayo ng bus na byaheng papuntang SM SouthMall/ Almanza or Alabang. Kung Jeep naman, sakay kayo ng byaheng pa-Alabang. Sigurado yun dadaan yun sa BF Resort. Ganun din, sabihin nyo ibaba kayo sa Cecille’s, tapat ng Casimiro.

**From there, ride a tricycle sabihin nyo sa sigsaga lang. alam na nila yun. Pwede din lakadin. Promise, malapit lang talaga sa guard house.

🚕By Grab/Uber

- Basta may Uber at Grab App ka at marunong ka makipag-usap kay kuya driver oks na.

🚙By Private Car

- Mag download lang kayo ng waze mga mamsh and you're good to go.

THE VERDICT

Overall we love everrrrrything. Yung Yakiniku, ang sarap sanang hindi tigilan, kaso lang I still believe pa din that everything that is too much is bad. Kaya sinabi ko na lang kay Husby na bumalik na lang ulit kami. Di pa naman siguro yun ang last supper namin. haha!

But seriously guys, we just love that they provided talaga a lot of food choices from their buffet tapos everything taste great pa. I love the sweet baby potatoes din and I may have to commend as well their lettuce kasi ang fresh talaga nila. Alam mo yung when you bite, meron talaga sayang lutong factor.
